Instruction
I offer instruction to new boat owners or those moving up to larger boats or wanting some assistance with navigation for an offshore, coastal or an ICW trip. I teach all aspects of safe boating, seamanship, boat handling, anchoring, and navigation, for both sail and power boats. All instruction is given on your boat and we cruise wherever you want to go. A week of instruction will make a lot of difference in your level of confidence when you begin your new adventure. Boat Owners are always welcome on my trips! If you or your representative would like to go on the delivery let me know.
Expenses & Insurance
All actual expenses for air travel, ground transportation, fuel, boat expenses, on board food and provisions are the responsibility of the owner. The owner is to contact his insurance company and provide me with a copy of his insurance policy showing that the policy is current and that I am insured to deliver his boat. The owner is also to provide me with enough money prior to leaving to cover the cost of estimated expenses for the trip plus 50% of my estimated fees. I will provide a written estimate. I also provide a contract after you have read the estimate and we agree to the terms. I try to provide receipts for all major expenses but sometimes I cannot get a receipt for cash expenses. Your insurance company will require that you have a licensed qualified experienced offshore Captain and crew to deliver your boat. I have never been turned down by any insurance company.
Communications, Weather
I own a satellite phone for easy communication anywhere and for emergencies. It is usually cheaper than cell phones outside the US. I carry a cell phone with text mail in many foreign countiries. I check e-mail at each stop and will keep in touch and update you on our progress. When going offshore in areas where heavy weather is a concern I have a weather router that I use if you are interested. The charges for the satellite phone and weather router would be at your expense if you want to use them. I charge full rate for layovers due to mechanical or weather delays. However, let me say that weather delays are very infrequent. I make a living on the ocean, large seas, rain, etc. are not unusual to me. I do my best to keep you updated on how the trip is going. I have a new GPS SPOT service which will give you a daily position via e-mail and allow me to notify you of any emergency or urgent needs. This does not replace the need for a ship's epirb unit.
Repairs
I am very good at normal maintenance and repair of typical diesel engine issues. If you have a good set of tools and parts on the boat I can usually repair most typical issues. However, if you prefer that I hire a professional mechanic I will be happy to do so. I also carry a $5,000 policy with Sea Tow which is effective on most vessels in the US. I have also used it in the Bahamas. I do urge all boat owners to have their boat inspected by a mechanic prior to a long trip. The main issue is usually involving dirty fuel and fuel filters and when we get offshore the trash is stirred up and gets into the fuel lines. This requires that I change filters frequently. The other issues are impellars, belts, hoses, lights. A good inspection prior to my arrival will save me time and you money.
Completion of Delivery
I will return your boat as clean or cleaner than I found it. It will be properly tied up, and locked up at the dock or mooring of your choice. I will expect payment in full upon completion of the delivery or wired to my account.

Booking the Trip
Advance booking is always the best. However, call me 50% of my trips are short notice and I will try to work you in. Just call and/or e-mail me and I will send you a written contract. I will need a deposit of 50% of the labor fee for most trips.
I am centrally located in Lexington, Kentucky. There are three major airports within an hour of my home and they compete for the best price. I try to fly Southwest whenever possible. Airfare is surprisingly cheap since all major carriers are available. If you prefer to buy the tickets yourself please do. I have crew on both the east and west coast of the US.
