Sailboat Delivery

This trip began in Monzanilla, Mexico which is about 100 miles south of Puerta Vallarta. Kathleen, Rick and I began this trip in February 2008 and completed it about 6 weeks later in Tortola, British Virgin Islands. We sailed about 3200 nautical miles, spent a week in Panama, visited several Mexican towns, two small towns in Costa Rica, Kingston, Jamaica, Ocean World Marina DR, Jost Van Dyke and Nanny Cay Marina in Tortola. I had a great crew with Rick who wants to keep the sails trimed perfectly all the time, loves to cook, and Kathleen who has developed into a great overall member of my crew. The three of us made an excellent team and we kept this 2005 49' Jeannea moving very well. We did not have much wind on the Pacific side and motored about 80% of the time to Panama. From Panama to Jamaica we had plenty of wind and sailed close hauled to Kingston where we stopped briefly for a little fuel and a good rest. I was pleasantly surprised with how well this stop in Kingston went. We then slugged it out through the Windward Passage to the Dominican Republic and on to the British Virgin Islands. I am really glad that Kathleen was fluent in Spanish as her skills came in very handy throughout Central America and the Dominican Republic. I suggest anytime you cruise these areas to bring someone who can speak Spanish. The Panama Canal is always an adventure and this trip was no different. However, having been through it before certainly made it much easier this time. I really enjoyed having some time to see the Indian Villages and the city of Panama this trip. We also saw many other areas on this trip. Unfortunately, all of my photographs prior to the Panama Canal were lost so the photos begin with the Panama Canal.
